THE IBILION INTERNSHIP
Joining Ibilion as an intern brings to you a history of quality up-skilling and practical hands-on proficiency. When completing your tenure as an intern you will have gained key work experience that will gear you for a future as a music technology and music management professional.
AS AN INTERN AT IBILION YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:
- Master skills to progress to higher level tasks. This means that you will need to research, practice, and develop new workflows on the job. If you don’t master it, you don’t go further. Running to your supervisor to solve problems is a practice unheard of from professional music producers. Figure it out!
- Work with music. This cannot be stressed enough; we are a music making business! Can you play piano, guitar and apply music theory? Can you sequence music and make rhythmic progressions?
- Apply business skills. Do you understand business operations? Do you have a music business background?
- Work with sound. Can you work a synthesizer and identify frequencies? Can you work in Pro Tools and use audio plugins?
- Be versatile. You’ll need to be able to absorb new information quickly and work outside of your own interests. Can you work with graphics and video?
- Get to work on time. The more reliable you are the more work you get. The more work you get, the faster you progress. The faster you progress the quicker you master the skill. If you master a skill, you will get paid for the task. Yes, do it like a pro and get paid like one!
- Be able to follow instruction accurately. We tell you how to do it quick, so pay attention, write it down, do it.
- Work independently. You have a supervisor demonstrating and checking your work, but they don’t do it for you.
- Get the details right. Keep your workstation clean, remember how to spell our company name, get client’s names right, remember instructions, check how it was done before, use initiative…
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL:
- Require work experience as credit toward your academic qualification.
- Have an impressive academic record in Arts & Culture Management, Music, or Music Technology qualifications. Put together a good CV.
- It is advisable that you are able to support yourself financially and have an approved stipend or bursary through your school, to begin with. We do offer basic wages to cover travel and meals at an advanced intern level, once you are half way into your intern period. A full-time position is not guaranteed.
- Know the business of Ibilion and Jonathan G. Shaw (study our rates list and studio setup) before an application interview.
- To complete your application:
- Pass our certification. This is free of charge for the intern application and includes the certificate.
- Supply a Pro Tools session folder, including at least an instrument track, mono audio track, stereo audio track and master fader with a processed musical arrangement and performance of YOU. Bounce the final audio as MP3 192 kbps. Try to show off your skill. Zip the folder once completed. No other DAW is accepted: you can use Pro Tools for free by getting Pro Tools Intro.
- Send your school/college endorsement, zipped Pro Tools session folder, CV, and motivational letter to: info@ibilion.co.za
- If we have an intern space, we shall notify you of pre-qualification.
- Ibilion shall then arrange an application appointment for an interview. In the appointment you will be evaluated. Bring supporting documents and other showcases, and be prepared to complete some audio, music and business tests. And,
- If successful, you will move into a one month probationary period. All going well, workdays are later compensated, and increase depending on your mastery of skills and current curriculum workload.
